A Recent Pin

I recently  pinned this soup recipe based on what the
picture looked like.
I pick out recipes like I pick out books to read,
it all depends on what the cover looks like.
Making grilled cheese sandwiches
the other day,
I remembered I pinned a tomato soup recipe.
I printed off the recipe.
Started reading the instructions,
and thought to myself,
now why in the world would anybody put vegies
in a crock pot and cook them for
5 to 7 hours?

So here is my recipe,
It took all of 30 minutes, give or take a few.
If you want the original recipe you can find it here

Petie's Tomato Soup
Makes about 2 quarts

1 (14 oz) cans whole tomatoes, with juice and1 small can of tomato sauce
1 cup finely diced onions
1 tsp dried oregano
fresh basil for the top
3 cans chicken broth
1/3 cup flour
1 cup Parmesan cheese
½ cup butter  and olive oil
2 cups half and half
 salt
 black pepper

1.  Sauté onions in butter and olive oil. Add in the oregano.

2.  When onions are a golden, add in the flour and cook.  I like to cook my flour for a minute or so.

3.  Add the 1 can of whole tomatoes, squishing the tomatoes before you add them to your pan.  Add in the 1 small can of tomato sauce and stir until the mixture makes a thick paste.  2 to 3 minutes.  Be sure and watch it as you are stirring so that it doesn't burn.

4.  Add in the chicken broth and let simmer on low for 30 minutes or so.
5. Right before serving add in the half and half and parmesan cheese. Season with the salt and pepper.

An Old French Home

all pictures from campagne  et doecration
I LOVE the proportions of the rooms in this French Home.
Tall ceilings, wide open windows.

 Simple materials,
a less is more kind of attitude without anything being too fancy.
Everything feels calm and uncluttered.
The color palette is soothing.
Not a fan of netting over the beds,
but love the armoire and that
big comfy looking chair.

Friday, Friday, Friday

Don't you just love the sound of Friday?

I have a busy weekend ahead.
My hubby will be home,
so I will be a baking and cooking fool.
He has a sweet tooth.
I have Chocolate chip cookies (his favorite)
and
a fabulous chocolate cake
on the menu.
I made meatballs and sauce this week,
and will be making a hearty meatball sandwich
for Friday night
and
grilled shrimp and steak (his favorite)
with blue cheese potatoes, yum! for Saturday night.

Since,
this ended up being wedding week here on Pie Ranch,
I just had to share
this beautiful flower made by
and the photo by the talented

I love her photography.

See you in the kitchen,

Get the Kleenex

You will need it for this wedding video.
It's a little long,
so watch it when you have some time.
I just loved the gift exchange, so thoughtful and touching,
 and the wedding kiss...

An Italian Wedding

I love Catholic weddings.
This wedding was held at the bride's Grandmother's home
in the Italian countryside.
She spent her summers' there, making memories,
playing with her sister's and cousins.

Chinese New Year

via etsy

Today marks the Chinese New Year.
It's always fun
when you go to a Chinese Restaurant to find out which
Chinese Zodiac sign you are.

According to the year and date I was born,
It says I am an Ox.
Loyal, tolerant, hard-working, and strong.
That would be my good qualities.
It also says, I am methodical and love routine.
I agree with that.
One of my lesser qualities as an Ox are,
          I can be unreasonable.
     What?????

My husband on the other hand is a Tiger.
It says he is competitive, fearless, and brave.
I agree with that.
Because of their strength of character,
they can come off as selfish and stubborn.
Funny, I agree with that too.

Compatibility

With a Tiger as your lover, life will never be dull.
But the Tiger will lock horns with the Ox,
because the Ox is one of the few signs to match
the Tiger's stubbornness.

Craig,
if you are reading this.
Thanks for never making life dull,
but you need to stop being so STUBBORN.
wink, wink...

Changes

via tumbler
I pray because I can't help myself.
I pray because I'm helpless.
I pray because the need flows out of me all the time-waking and sleeping.
It doesn't change God-it changes me.
C.S. Lewis

Most of the stuff that C.S. Lewis
has written, I do not understand.
But the line ,
"It doesn't change God-it changes me",
Is so powerful.
For one,
God never changes, never has and never will.
He doesn't love me more , just because I am praying.
He just loves me...
And two,
when I humbly fall to my knees and pray,
I am the one that changes,
little by little.
What a gift...

Thank you Sir, May I have Another?

Another bracelet...

I love wearing multiple bracelets on my arm.
The bigger the better.

I am  really liking the mixed metals together...
silver, gold and turquoise
all on the same arm.
This is so out of character for me.

You are the Cream in my Coffee

I received an e-mail from Anthropology the other day and
as usual I couldn't help but check out their new products.
These Menagerie Juice glasses caught my eye.
I am usually a plain Jane girl when it comes to glasses or tumblers.
I have been using jelly jars for years.
The Small and Large size.

But these are too cute, especially the one with the whale.
They were designed by Molly Hatch.
I love her signature.
Of course,
I love anything with a crown.

What about you?
Do you have a mix of glass ware in your cupboards
or do you stick with the glasses being all the same?

Sunday Goodness

bippityboppityboo

Give me understanding, so that I may keep your law
and obey it with all my heart.
Direct me in the path of your commands,
for there I find delight.
Turn my heart toward your statutes
and not toward selfish gain.
Turn my eyes away from worthless things;
preserve my life according to your word.
Fulfill your promise to your servant,
so that you may be feared.
Take away the disgrace I dread,
for your laws are good
— Psalm 119:34-39

 size for the kitchen fridge,

office file cabinet or your inspirational memo board!

 Letterpress printed from Kiscalligraphy,

each month is different and full of delight!

Be sure and check out her etsy shop.

a 12-month tear away calendar for the 2012 year made from an antique wood type letterpress.
Also, a tiny section on the right of each month to record special events.
I grew up with these types of calendars.
I think calendars like watches, will be a thing of the past.
What do you think?

Instagram and Teenagers

Photo a day Challenge via Instagram

Nest of Posies
blog is having a photo a day challenge via Instagram.  I thought this would be fun to do, only I needed my teenagers help with Instagram.

FYI-when you have teenagers, your sole purpose in life is to help them,
 not the other way around.
You were put on this earth to be at their beck and call.
Any help given by them will be done with rolling of the eyes, noises that you don't understand and making you feel stupid because you don't know how to do ANYTHING on the computer.
You are so OLD...

I think I had to promise her the moon-or something along those lines.
I abhor teenagers.
My SIL once said that when your kids turn 13,
the devil takes over their mind and body.
I believe this is to be true...

I am a few days behind, but will catch up...

Day 1
Me

Day 2
Delicious smoothie, gone

Day 3
Something I adore

Happy, Happy Birthday to the PERFECT DAUGHTER.
You Rock my World...

Office Gods

Isn't this the most fantastic office you have ever seen?
I am calling on the Office Gods
to bless me with this office.

I love everything about this space, but the shelving and the baskets
sucked me in...
